WordPress.com launches Easy Site Editor with conversational AI

WordPress.com has announced the beta launch of a new website building tool called the Easy Site Editor, which allows users to create and customize sites through natural language commands. The feature is designed for users who find traditional website editors complex or intimidating.

The announcement was made on the official WordPress.com blog on May 20, 2026. The Easy Site Editor represents a significant shift in how the platform approaches content management, moving from a block based interface to a conversational model.

How the Easy Site Editor works

The Easy Site Editor replaces the traditional menu driven interface with a chat panel. On the left side of the screen, users type instructions in plain English. On the right side, they see a live preview of their website as it will appear to visitors. Changes to headlines, images, colors, or page content are applied instantly based on the text commands.

The preview displays the actual published site, not a mockup. Users can click through pages and navigate the site as a visitor would. This is intended to reduce confusion about where edits will appear or how to return to previous sections.

Direct editing capability

For users who prefer hands on control, the Easy Site Editor includes a direct editing mode. By selecting an edit option, users can click on any text or image element on the page and change it directly. This removes the need to locate blocks in a back end editor.

Relationship with the existing Site Editor

The Easy Site Editor is not a replacement for the full WordPress Site Editor. The standard tool remains available for experienced users and designers who require granular control over blocks, templates, and theme settings. The new editor is intended as an entry point for users who want a simpler experience. Users can switch between the two tools at any time.

The conversational editor is built on the same underlying WordPress infrastructure, meaning changes made through either interface are reflected across the other. This integration means users are not locked into one workflow.

Availability and rollout

The Easy Site Editor is currently in beta. WordPress.com has stated that once the beta period concludes, the feature will be rolled out to all paid WordPress.com plans. The company has not provided a specific timeline for general availability. Further announcements are expected on the official WordPress.com blog.
