Moon Studios delays No Rest for the Wicked to March 2027 – “We’re holding our games to a standard we won’t compromise on

Moon Studios has postponed the full release of its action role-playing game No Rest for the Wicked to March 2027. The title entered early access in April 2024, and its 1.0 launch had previously been scheduled for October 2026.

The developer of Ori and the Will of the Wisps said the game is close to completion, but that close is not good enough for the full 1.0 launch. As of July 2026, No Rest for the Wicked had sold two million copies.

Reason for the Delay

In a statement, Moon Studios said the additional time will be used to improve performance, tighten the class system, and polish the overall experience. The studio described itself as a small team and said it is holding its games to a standard it will not compromise on.

“The honest truth is that we’re a small team, and we’re holding our games to a standard we won’t compromise on, ” the studio said.

“The extra time will help us improve performance, tighten the class system, and polish the whole game to the standard you all deserve. We’d rather take a few more months than ship something that we know isn’t quite perfect yet.”

The studio also said the delay will allow for additional testing periods.

“It also means more close and open beta tests in the coming months, which means you, our community, can get your hands on it and help us shape the final 1.0 build.”

Beta Testing and Early Access Rewards

An open beta test is scheduled for December. Customers who purchase No Rest for the Wicked before January 1, 2027, will receive Founders Pack Rewards for supporting the game during early access.

PlayStation pre-orders will begin in January 2027, allowing players on that platform to access the same rewards.

Developer Comments

In a separate announcement on YouTube, studio founder Thomas Mahler said the team had been on a “mad dash to add more content, bring all the 1.0 stuff in, add the class system, and so on.”

“We’ve been playtesting a lot, and the truth is simply that we’re not quite there yet, ” Mahler said.

“We’ve been working on the first prototypes of No Rest for the Wicked all the way back in 2016, and given we’re in the last couple of months, we would just like to take that extra time to make sure that we land this plane safely and that we don’t ship with any silly little bugs left.”

“We want everybody to have a wonderful experience and ship something that is one of those generational games that only comes out every so often.”

Moon Studios now expects the full 1.0 release to arrive in March 2027. The December open beta and the January 2027 PlayStation pre-order window are the next official milestones ahead of that launch.
