A new Desktop application called WordPress Workspace has been released for Mac users, consolidating site management tools into a single interface. The app is currently available in beta and is included at no additional cost with all WordPress.com plans.
What the Application Does
WordPress Workspace functions as a native macOS application that provides direct access to WordPress Agent, the platform’s AI assistant. Users can ask questions about their site, dictate ideas using voice-to-text, capture screenshots, upload images, and transform selected text without opening a web browser.
The application is designed to reduce the need to switch between multiple separate tools during content creation and site management workflows. It keeps user context intact across different tasks.
Key Features Included
The application comes with several built-in capabilities. Users can interact with WordPress Agent for site assistance and other tasks directly from the desktop. A voice-to-text dictation feature converts spoken words into clean text suitable for posts, pages, and notes.
Screenshot capture functionality allows users to add visual context to their work without launching separate applications. Direct media uploads enable images to be moved into the WordPress media library in a single action.
For users managing multiple websites, each site can be configured as its own workspace. Switching between sites switches the associated context, including tools and settings.
Integration and Availability
WordPress Workspace is built around the existing WordPress.com account system. There is no separate account creation required and no additional subscription fee during the beta period. Users sign in with their current WordPress.com account, select the site they wish to work with, and begin using the tools immediately.
Access and permissions follow the same model that teams already use within WordPress.com, ensuring consistency across user roles. The application is compatible with macOS 11 (Big Sur) or later and works on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.
Future Guidelines Feature
According to the developers, the application is expected to become more functional when paired with a feature called guidelines. This feature is anticipated to arrive in WordPress Core and will allow site administrators to define how content should sound, read, and behave on their site.
When implemented, guidelines will influence how WordPress Agent responds to queries, how dictated text is formatted, and how generated images align with a site’s established voice. The goal is to produce cleaner first drafts, maintain more consistent tone, and reduce manual editing.
The guidelines feature is expected to introduce several components. Instructions will guide WordPress Agent behavior specific to each site. Memories will allow the AI assistant to become more useful over time by retaining contextual information. Skills will enable users to teach the agent new capabilities and share them with team members. Artifacts will provide a space for storing content in progress and general notes.
Broader Context
The release of WordPress Workspace represents part of a larger shift by the platform toward becoming a richer environment for publishing, collaboration, and AI-assisted workflows. The application transforms a WordPress site from a place where work is published into a space where context and tools reside together.
Beta Status and Limitations
WordPress Workspace is currently designated as a beta release. Features and functionality may evolve as the development team gathers user feedback and refines the experience. All WordPress.com plan holders can access the beta version now.
The application is available for download from the official WordPress.com website.
