WordPress.com Integrates with Claude AI for Content Strategy

WordPress.com has introduced a new integration with the artificial intelligence platform Claude, enabling website owners to generate content ideas and manage publication directly from their dashboards. The feature, available to paid users, leverages the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to create a secure connection between a user’s WordPress site and their Claude account.

The integration is designed to help content creators identify gaps in their existing material by analyzing site data, including blog posts and traffic patterns. Once connected, users can instruct Claude to review their website and suggest topics that have not been covered but may interest their audience.

How the Integration Works

To activate the connection, users must enable MCP Tool Access within their WordPress.com account settings. They must then add the official WordPress.com connector within their Claude account settings. After approving the link between the two services, Claude can access the website’s content with user permission.

The AI can then perform tasks based on user prompts. For instance, it can scan a site’s blog to find unanswered questions from readers or analyze competitor websites to highlight missing topics. The system can also evaluate existing posts and recommend improvements for content that appears incomplete.

From Ideas to Publication

Beyond generating topic lists, the tool can assist with content planning and creation. Users can ask Claude to prioritize suggested topics based on specific business goals, such as attracting new prospects or supporting existing clients. The AI can then organize these into a content calendar, which can be exported to spreadsheet formats like Google Sheets or Excel.

For individual articles, Claude can generate detailed outlines after reviewing competitor content on a given subject. Users can refine these outlines before drafting the final piece. Once an article is written, it can be uploaded to Claude, which can then publish it as a draft post on the connected WordPress site, complete with suggested categories, tags, and internal links.

Editorial Refinement

After a post is created in WordPress, users can employ the platform’s native AI assistant for further editing, such as correcting grammar or simplifying text. This assistant is available to users on Business and Commerce plans, or to those who built their site using WordPress.com’s AI website builder.

The connection between Claude and WordPress.com uses OAuth 2.1, a standard authorization protocol, to maintain security while allowing the AI to read site data. The feature is positioned as a workflow tool for streamlining content strategy and production.

As AI-assisted content creation becomes more integrated into mainstream publishing platforms, tools like this are expected to evolve with more advanced analytical and automated writing features. The development signals a continued trend of blending generative AI with established content management systems.
