The results highlight how established titles can generate renewed commercial momentum when publishers update or repackage older games for modern platforms.<\/p>\n
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is the first remake in the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Newzoo market analyst Mert Sahin said the title’s performance demonstrates the commercial potential that can remain with established titles.<\/p>\n
“Remakes can combine familiarity with meaningful updates, appealing to existing fans while making older experiences more accessible to new audiences, ” Sahin said.<\/p>\n
Black Flag Resynced ranked at No. 9 on Newzoo’s Top 20 new games year-to-date by revenue. Halo: Campaign Evolved appeared at No. 20 on the same list.<\/p>\n
Ports of Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 were released without prior announcement on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The two titles reached sixth and first place, respectively, in the console revenue charts.<\/p>\n
“While Black Flag Resynced shows the potential of substantially updating an established game, July’s Call of Duty results demonstrate that straightforward ports can also generate significant commercial momentum, ” Sahin said.<\/p>\n
“These examples highlight different approaches to managing a back catalogue. Substantial remakes can reposition older games for modern audiences, while straightforward re-releases can generate renewed demand with comparatively limited changes.”<\/p>\n
Palworld left early access and entered the PC revenue chart in fifth place. Newzoo noted that, as a single-purchase title without microtransactions or paid downloadable content, most of the revenue came from new players. Palworld 1.0 also debuted at No. 19 on the Top 20 new games year-to-date by revenue.<\/p>\n
In console monthly active users, Grand Theft Auto 5 rose two places. Newzoo attributed the increase to greater interest in GTA 6 following pre-orders and the launch of The Kortz Centre Heist on GTA Online.<\/p>\n
“July’s PC and console rankings show how publishers can create fresh momentum around established games and franchises, ” Sahin said.<\/p>\n
“Timely in-game and real-world events lifted engagement, while remakes, re-releases, and lifecycle transitions generated new commercial opportunities across PC and console.”<\/p>\n
