The update was announced on Tuesday and is designed to help professionals locate specific details from within various business applications without manually sifting through multiple platforms.

The new cross app search capability enables users to query data from Otter’s own meeting transcripts as well as from other services that are integrated into the system. This includes common enterprise software such as Salesforce, HubSpot, and Microsoft Teams. By typing a search term into Otter’s interface, users can retrieve relevant results from any of these connected sources, effectively creating a unified search layer across their work tools.

Otter’s CEO, Sam Liang, stated that the feature aims to reduce time wasted on searching for scattered information across disconnected platforms. According to the company, many professionals spend up to 20 percent of their workweek looking for specific data inside various applications. The new search functionality is intended to centralize that process, allowing users to access meeting notes, customer records, and project updates from a single entry point.

New Windows app with offline capabilities

In addition to the enterprise search feature, Otter is also releasing a new Windows desktop application. This app includes a notable capability: it can capture meeting notes from video calls even if the user does not actively join the meeting. The company explained that this is achieved through a system level integration that records audio and generates a transcript and summary automatically.

The Windows app is designed to work with platforms like Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams. Once installed, users can schedule Otter to attend and record specific meetings on their behalf. The tool will then generate a searchable transcript and a summary of key points, which can be accessed later through the Otter dashboard. This feature is positioned as a solution for employees who are unable to attend every meeting but still need to stay informed of decisions and action items.

Otter emphasized that the Windows app works fully offline for note taking and playback. Users can record meetings, review transcripts, and search past notes without an active internet connection. Once the device reconnects, the data syncs automatically to the cloud.

Pricing and availability

The cross app search feature is available immediately to Otter Business and Enterprise subscribers. The company has not announced plans to bring the feature to its lower tier plans at this time. The new Windows app is rolling out globally and can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store. Existing Otter users can log in with their current credentials, while new users can sign up for a free account, which includes a limited number of transcription minutes per month.

Otter has been expanding its product line beyond simple transcription into broader productivity and knowledge management tools. The introduction of cross app search and a more capable Windows app aligns with this strategy, particularly as remote and hybrid work models continue to drive demand for asynchronous communication and automated note taking.

Looking ahead

The company has indicated that future updates will focus on expanding the number of integrated enterprise tools for the search feature. Otter is also exploring deeper integration with calendar and project management platforms. No specific timeline for these additions has been provided, but the company has stated that user feedback will guide the priority of new integrations.

Source: Delimiter Online

Otter, the company known for its artificial intelligence powered meeting assistant, has introduced a new feature that allows users to search for information across their connected enterprise tools.
