WordPress.com has introduced several new features and updates to its platform, including an experimental Telegram bot for site management and the ability for newsletter publishers to grant complimentary subscriptions. These updates were released between March 28 and April 11, 2026.
The company stated the changes are designed to provide users with more flexibility in how they manage their websites and engage with their audiences. The updates span areas including artificial intelligence integration, development tools, and newsletter functionality.
AI and Site Management Tools
A new Telegram bot, currently in an alpha testing phase, allows users to interact with their WordPress.com sites through the messaging app. The tool enables tasks such as publishing posts, checking site statistics, finding domains, and correcting errors directly from a mobile device without using a web browser.
The bot was demonstrated publicly at the WordCamp Asia conference, where organizers used it to publish posts and images about the event from their phones. Access to the bot’s features may be limited based on a user’s specific site plan.
Refined Controls for AI Agents
WordPress.com has also updated the interface for managing its Model Context Protocol (MCP) tools, which facilitate connections with external AI agents. The controls for read and write tools are now displayed on separate pages, with settings organized by site area such as Posts, Pages, and Account.
Additionally, administrators can now enable MCP access on a per-site basis through their site settings. This change provides more granular control over which sites can interact with external AI services.
Development Feature Expansion
The Studio Sync feature, previously limited to higher-tier plans, is now available to users on Personal and Premium plans. This tool, part of the WordPress Studio desktop application, allows developers to synchronize a locally developed website with a live WordPress.com site.
The expansion means a broader range of users can now develop and test site changes in a local environment before deploying them to their production sites.
Newsletter Subscription Updates
Newsletter publishers using WordPress.com can now grant individual subscribers complimentary access to paid newsletter tiers. This process does not require the subscriber to provide credit card information.
Publishers can manage these complimentary subscriptions from their Subscribers screen, selecting the specific paid plan level for a subscriber and retaining the ability to revoke access at any time.
Platform Fixes and Refinements
Alongside the new features, WordPress.com deployed several updates aimed at improving reliability and user experience across the platform.
One update adds a breadcrumb navigation trail to detail pages within the site statistics section, making it easier for users to navigate back to previously viewed pages. Another fix resolves an issue that prevented some newsletter publishers with a single billing interval from successfully importing subscriber lists.
The company also addressed a technical issue that could cause the site editor to crash and prevent images from loading on certain websites.
Based on the alpha status of the Telegram bot, further refinements and a broader rollout are expected following the initial testing period. The expansion of Studio Sync and the new newsletter tools are now generally available to users on the applicable plans.
