Huawei Pura 90 Series Launches with 200MP Camera

Huawei has officially launched its new Pura 90 series of flagship smartphones, introducing a range of devices headlined by a high-end model featuring a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto camera. The announcement marks the company’s latest push in the premium smartphone segment, focusing heavily on advanced imaging capabilities.

The series, unveiled at an event in China, includes the standard Pura 90, the Pura 90 Pro, and the top-tier Pura 90 Max. The devices are expected to roll out to international markets, including the United Arab Emirates, in the coming weeks.

Pura 90 Max: Camera and Display

The Pura 90 Max serves as the flagship model within the series. Its primary differentiator is the 200MP periscope telephoto sensor, which is designed to offer significant improvements in optical zoom and low-light photography. The system uses a multi-prism design to fold light, allowing for a longer focal length within the phone’s slim chassis.

The device also features a 6.9-inch OLED display with a high refresh rate, supporting a resolution of 3200 x 1440 pixels. The screen is covered with Kunlun Glass, Huawei’s proprietary strengthened glass material, for increased durability.

Pura 90 and Pura 90 Pro Specifications

The standard Pura 90 comes with a 6.6-inch OLED display and a triple camera system led by a 50MP main sensor. It includes a 12MP ultrawide lens and a 12MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom. The Pura 90 Pro upgrades the telephoto lens to a 48MP sensor with 10x optical zoom and includes a larger battery.

All models in the series are powered by the Kirin 9010 chipset, Huawei’s latest in-house processor. The devices run HarmonyOS 4.0, Huawei’s proprietary operating system, which does not include Google Mobile Services. Instead, users access apps through Huawei’s AppGallery.

Battery and Charging

The Pura 90 Max is equipped with a 5,100mAh battery, while the Pro and standard models feature 4,700mAh and 4,600mAh batteries respectively. All three models support 100W wired fast charging and 50W wireless fast charging. The devices also support reverse wireless charging for accessories such as earbuds.

Pricing and UAE Availability

Huawei has confirmed that the Pura 90 series will be available in the UAE market. Pre-orders are expected to open within two weeks of the launch. Pricing for the UAE market has not been officially announced, but based on previous launches, the standard Pura 90 is expected to be priced around AED 2,999, the Pro model around AED 3,499, and the Pura 90 Max around AED 4,299.

Local retailers and telecom operators, including Etisalat and du, are expected to offer the devices with financing plans and trade-in deals. Huawei’s regional office in Dubai has confirmed that the devices will be supported by the company’s local service centers.

The launch comes as Huawei continues to compete in the premium smartphone market despite ongoing restrictions on access to certain US technology. The company’s focus on camera innovation and proprietary software remains central to its strategy in the region.

Analysts note that the Pura 90 series faces competition from devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and the iPhone 15 Pro Max, particularly in the high-end photography segment. The absence of Google services remains a key consideration for potential buyers in international markets.

Huawei has not yet provided a specific date for the global launch beyond China. The company is expected to release detailed pricing and availability for the UAE and other markets in a follow-up announcement.
