The company’s leadership stated this ongoing support is a core part of the game’s evolution from a modestly projected release into a major live service success. The announcement highlights the long term strategy for one of the most enduring titles in the asymmetric horror genre.

Initial internal projections for the game were notably conservative. During development, the studio commissioned mock reviews and used the feedback to forecast lifetime sales of approximately 300,000 copies. This early assessment significantly underestimated the game’s eventual market performance and cultural impact.

From Humble Forecasts to Live Service Leader

Launched in 2016, Dead by Daylight pits four Survivors against one powerful Killer in a tense game of cat and mouse. The title distinguished itself by featuring original characters alongside licensed icons from major horror franchises, including characters from “Halloween,” “Stranger Things,” and “Resident Evil.” This approach broadened its appeal significantly beyond its initial scope.

The game’s transition to a live service model was pivotal to its sustained growth.
