Red Rover Interactive Cuts 22 Jobs, Delays Enginefall to 2027

Red Rover Interactive, the development studio behind the upcoming title Enginefall, has announced plans to lay off 22 members of its workforce and delay the game’s release until 2027. The news was confirmed by the company in a statement provided to industry media outlets earlier this week.

The studio confirmed the restructuring on Monday, stating that 22 roles would be eliminated across the organization. The layoffs, which affect a significant portion of the team, come as the developer adjusts its operational strategy and development timeline for its debut title.

Red Rover Interactive has not disclosed the exact number of total employees prior to the cuts. However, based on publicly available data from professional networking platforms, the studio was estimated to have between 50 and 60 staff members. The reduction of 22 roles therefore represents approximately one third of the company’s workforce.

The layoffs coincide with a major revision to the launch schedule for Enginefall. The game, which was previously expected to launch sometime in the near future, has now been pushed back to 2027. The developer cited the need for additional development time and a more sustainable production pace as primary reasons for the delay.

The State of the Industry

This round of cuts is part of a broader pattern of workforce reductions across the video game sector in recent quarters. Similar layoffs have been reported at both large publishers and independent studios, reflecting a period of adjustment following the rapid expansion seen during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Red Rover Interactive, based in Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom, was founded by industry veterans who previously worked on titles such as DayZ, World of Tanks, and Dying Light. The studio positions Enginefall as a tactical, session-based shooter with a focus on in-world player interaction and emergent gameplay.

The company has not disclosed whether the affected employees will receive severance packages or outplacement assistance. Red Rover Interactive did confirm that the remaining team is now focused entirely on completing Enginefall on the revised timeline.

Looking Ahead

The studio has stated that it remains committed to seeing Enginefall through to launch. With the new release window set for 2027, the team has a period of approximately three years to refine the product and stabilize its internal operations. Industry analysts note that this extended timeline could allow the developer to adjust its budget, scope, and team structure accordingly.

Red Rover Interactive has not announced any changes to its leadership team or board of directors. Further announcements regarding Enginefall’s development milestones or additional funding rounds are expected in the coming months.
