eROAMING Launches Chipless eSIM Pack for Retail Partners

A travel-focused mobile virtual network enabler (MVNE), eROAMING, has introduced a new retail product designed to simplify the sale of mobile data connectivity through physical stores. The initiative aims to bridge the existing gap between traditional SIM card distribution and purely digital, app-based eSIM services.

The company’s “chipless eSIM pack” contains no physical chip. Instead, each unit features a dynamic QR code linked to a unique ICCID, the standard identifier for a SIM profile. This model allows travel agencies, airport retailers, hotels, and other businesses to sell eSIMs in a familiar retail format without managing physical inventory.

Commission-Based Distribution Model

The distribution operates on a commission-based system that mirrors tracking for physical SIM cards. Each pack’s ICCID and QR code are assigned to a specific retailer or partner. When a customer activates the eSIM, the platform records the ICCID and attributes the sale to the originating retailer. This enables partners to earn commission without handling traditional SIM stock, managing returns, or dealing with expiry dates.

Ravi Navaratnam, founder and director of eROAMING, stated that most travel eSIM providers offer activation purely through apps or websites. He described the new pack as a retail-ready format designed to make eSIM technology easier for consumers to understand and purchase.

Targeting the Travel eSIM Market

The packs are intended for travel-focused businesses seeking entry into the growing travel eSIM sector. This market has expanded rapidly as travellers increasingly seek alternatives to conventional, often expensive, international roaming charges.

Once installed, the eSIM connects to eROAMING’s aggregated global network, which provides access to more than 600 mobile networks across over 165 countries. Devices automatically connect to the strongest available partner network in each destination without requiring manual configuration from the user.

The company positions this as a hybrid approach. It brings travel businesses into the eSIM ecosystem without requiring them to adopt a fully digital sales model. The physical packaging serves as a bridge for customers who still associate mobile connectivity with a tangible product, while the activation process remains fully digital.

Simplifying Retail Logistics

For retailers, the model eliminates several logistical challenges. There is no need to manage SIM inventory, track expiry dates, or perform stock reconciliation. A customer simply scans the QR code on their smartphone to download and instantly activate the eSIM profile.

The company stated the initiative is designed to broaden access to global connectivity. It also opens the eSIM market to a wider range of distribution partners who have historically relied on physical SIM products for revenue.

Looking ahead, the availability of these retail packs is expected to provide a new revenue stream for traditional travel partners. It allows them to participate in the digital eSIM market while maintaining a physical point of sale, a format familiar to many consumers worldwide.
